Delegates to the Republican National Convention will gather in less than two months and are expected by most to nominate businessman Donald Trump for president. But it's not quite so simple or certain Trump will still have one last sales job ahead of him, persuading the delegates to choose him at the convention before he can claim the nomination.
This is because each and every delegate has complete freedom to vote their conscience at the convention, including who the party's nominee should be. This may come as a surprise to many, particularly those who are reading about Trump's recent win in the Washington state primary and how close he is to "clinching" the Republican nomination.

“Totally incorrect. There is no federal law binding delegates to vote a particular way and state laws are unenforceable at a national political partys convention. The binding of delegates happens through mutual agreement between state parties and the national party.
The delegates to the national convention can do whatever they want. Its their convention. They vote on a new set of rules to govern the convention. If they choose to disregard the mutual agreement for binding delegates, they are free to do so, period. The courts have ruled repeatedly that political parties have a constitutional right to freedom of association and can write and enforce their own rules. States cannot interfere in that process.”
I agree with every word you’re saying, and I know personally a Cruz delegate here in MN who is going to Cleveland and would love to blow up Rule 16B, unbind the delegates, and give Cruz the nomination.
As a practical matter, however, I just don’t think it’s gonna happen. My friend acknowledges that he’s in the minority — while a great many delegates would like to blow the whole thing up, they know this would be the political equivalent of a nuclear explosion. It could lead to riots in Cleveland, and there would never be party unity in the aftermath. I don’t even think Cruz would want to run under those circumstances.
If we found out that Trump was having a secret affair with Hillary
AND they planned to divorce and marry each other after the November election
AND the news broke at the convention just before the delegates were to vote
SHOULD the Trump delegates still vote for Trump?
There won’t be any shenannigans, but if the delegates wanted shennanigans, they’d have full authority to commence shennanigans.
That most people don’t realize that political parties are not agencies of the state flabbergasts me.
Their last gasp for power... they just can’t give up. I am so pleased that the people have spoken.. I wondered if we were past redemption ... and along came a man with spunk.. and the waiting crowds came alive. Thank the Lord! and thank Trump for having the guts to do this... it couldn’t have been easy... I think the first thing I saw in him was he got things done and wasted no time ... he followed through and I figured we needed a man in a hurry to turn this mess around. obams isn’t finished either.. he’s going to do a burn everything before he’s finished.. he’s full of revenge.. you can see it even now.. in Japan running down the next President. he’s having a fit over a man capable of undoing all his dirty work. !!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tell your shennanigan full authority delgates to go for it. I'd pay good money to see that happen.
They ain’t mine, Darlin’.
Every other candidate suspended his campaign. There is no one even close to the number of delegates that Trump has. He’s a lock. Period. End of discussion.
But people need to get it through their thick skulls that the delegates are in charge. And that’s the way it should be within the system that we have today. The delegates have every right to tell the national party apparatus to get bent and do what they feel is in the best interest of the people who elected them.
Whose last gasp for power? The people speak every presidential election when they elect delegates.
The difference this year? You’re excited about the candidate.
Aren’t we done with this crap?
Can we just focus on beating up on Hillary, Biden, and the Mohawk.
They stated that they would obey the wishes of the voters.
The idea that delegates would simply ignore the voters is just idiocy and wishful thinking from Cruz nuts.
Those votes were counted as going to Trump even though unbound because they said they would follow how the State voted.
No, you said the delegates are bound. They aren’t.
IMHO, you’re correct that there won’t be any shennanigans.

Roccus, ping to goldstategop’s post
Who is ‘WE’? CBS (SeeBS) and the MSM?
They don’t like it when we get to decide.
The delegates are in charge of nothing in this election. You don’t get it, and they don’t get. Tell those full authority (spit) delegates to go just the opposite direction of what the people want. I hope they go for it and these full authority delegates as you call them, should thwart the will of the people. Just tell America to F off. Was that not the the shenanigans you’re referring to?
Again, I’ll pay good money to see that tex.
The ones that are will vote for Trump on the first ballot.
doesn’t matter by law they are unbound.
They stated that they would obey the wishes of the voters.>>> today but they are unbound by club rules. not our club.
