Some do seem to function better when under the influence as long as they don’t overdo it. I used to go fishing with a friend who would scare you to death with his driving when totally sober but after three beers he was as rock steady as any professional driver. I would actually sleep in the passenger seat with him driving as long as I knew he was NOT on the water wagon. In those days it was actually legal in South Carolina to drink beer while driving as long as you did not show signs of being intoxicated. You could salute a highway patrolman with an open beer can as long as you were driving okay. Now you can’t blink an eye without getting pulled over.
