Maybe I'm not getting something. Gingrich is a lot more like-minded than plenty of current officeholders I could think of. If Gingrich didn't want to run for president in 2020 at his advanced age, which is probably the case if he's even still around, so what? Why would that be a problem? As I said, Trump could appoint a younger VP if the office ever fell vacant, and there are always other possible candidates for president in any case. Age and the "succession" issue just isn't that big a deal.
