Good comments. I want to point out, though, that I could still walk through any neighborhood in Seattle, day or night, without pre-arming myself with a Seal squadron, so the two cities really aren’t equivalent in operational terms. I prefer the mountain views as well!

LOL! I prefer the mountains, too. And it’s true that I wouldn’t go walking in some areas after dark. But in my more than 50 years of living here, I’ve only seen one neighborhood that I would never go back into during the day. I drive through some pretty tough areas every day, and I never feel threatened. It seems that the people who live in these neighborhoods, as opposed to those who drive through them, are the real victims.
