They hate the Chinese, that’s what is driving this.
The last time Vietnam’s armed forces acted, they got rid of Pol Pot, so they weren’t all bad.
They also fought the ChiComs that year, as well.
Like Ho Chi Minh said, “I’d rather smell French sh-t for five years, than Chinese s—t for a thousand years.”
We thought Peking was supporting the south during the war. Guess we were wrong. Reopen Cam Ran Bay.
The Vietnamese did smell Chinese s*** for a thousand years, from 111 B.C. to 938 A.D. when Vietnam was occupied by China.
Look up “Trung sisters revolt”. FWIW I learned this in Vietnam many eons ago while speaking French with North Vietnamese refugees from Hanoi. They have very long memories.
They kicked the Khmer Rouge after installing them in power in 1975, and only after the pro-VN faction had enough genocide and wanted more say in Phnom Penh.
They lost many men in the 1979 war, immediately groveled to China afterwards, and have ceded their northern border to the Chinese since that time. All that “heroic” sacrifice for nothing.
Not to mention almost five decades of destroying Vietnam and the lives of at least 2 generations. But they’re not “too bad,” huh?
