Romney was uninspiring, a candidate nominated only because he was the most tolerable candidate of every one who ran.
He gathered no real excitement. No one cared if he won or lost.
Obama had charisma and tremendous popularity with liberal, millenial and black voters.
That - and being an incumbent was insurmountable to overcome.
Hillary can be beaten and Trump can do it.

Demographics make it virtually impossible for a Republican to win a landslide.
Trump can win definitely win it, but if he does, it will be very, very close. The NeverTrumpers may very well decide this one.
