There are very few legitimate in-flight emergencies where an aircraft, at altitude, cannot get a radio call out.

Redundant equipment, battery back-ups, nothing short of violence either internal or external could make such a plane simply disappear.

I would have expected the do-er to scream alloo snackback over the air while it was crashing.

It is inconceivable these pilots did not have a hand held portable radio in the cockpit. When I was flying (a little puddle jumper single engine Piper Cherokee) I had TWO radios PLUS the hand held.
