Vladimir Putin’s Dangerous Obsession
NY Times ^ | 19 May, 2016 | Editorial Board

Posted on 05/19/2016 7:15:11 PM PDT by MtnClimber

The United States and Russia are now proposing to drop food and other emergency aid from the air if President Bashar al-Assad of Syria does not allow trucks to deliver supplies to his besieged cities. Airdrops are a risky and desperate move — costly, hard to deliver accurately and, if poorly targeted, a threat to kill or injure the people they are supposed to help.

On the surface the move seems a humanitarian gesture from two nations that are supposedly partners in ending Syria’s bloody civil war. What it really does is highlight, once again, the duplicity of President Vladimir Putin of Russia, in Syria and elsewhere. Mr. Assad remains in power largely because of Russian military assistance. It is hard to believe that Mr. Putin, who fancies himself a man who can get what he wants, could not persuade Mr. Assad to let aid get through to the cities if he chose to try.

While promising Secretary of State John Kerry that he would work with America to end the war that has reportedly killed up to 470,000 people, Mr. Putin has been unable or unwilling to stop Mr. Assad from shelling civilians and, according to reports, is continuing Russian airstrikes as well. A temporary cease-fire that raised hopes for a more durable peace has now largely collapsed, talks between the Assad government and opposition forces have broken down and plans to begin a negotiated political transition to a more inclusive government by Aug. 1 seem ever more remote.

Syria is just one arena where Mr. Putin’s obsessive quest to make Russia great again has fueled instability and reawakened political suspicions and animosities that faded after the fall of the Soviet Union.

The NY Slimes editorial board (nearly ALL flaming homosexuals) are far worse than Putin and Assad.

Anything they put out to the public should be taken with a grain of salt. The board would make the demon filth living in Sodom and Gomorrah look like Saints.

What utter rot.

Someone should tell the Saudis and Turks to stop supporting the so-called rebels are in fact, just sunni-Islamists like Al Qaeda.

Very few civild wars just happen in a vacuum. Syria’s in particular brings into play many factors - Sunni Arabs vs. minorities, Saudi Arabia vs. Iran, oil and Saudi and Turkish attempts to install puppet sunni rulers, pipeline politics and strategic games between Russia, the USA and EU.

The NYT editorial writer(s) don’t know shit about airdrops, or the truth in general.

Accuracy in airdrops depend on the delivery system (capsules, parachutes, skids, level of drop, air currents, anti-aircraft weapons by the enemy, etc).

Helicopters can be used for limited air drops too. Even drones will work.

If you provide sufficient air cover, an air drop can go off without any problem, and you don’t need to use C-17’s when C-123’s, C-130, or old DC 6’s can do the job.

Relying on the NYT editorial board for the truth and accuracy is like a diabetic relying on a candy salesman for medical advise.

The Turks and Saudis are also Sunni Islamists just like Al-Qaeda. And I strongly suspect our President and CIA director fall into the same category.

Sounds like the Slimes is trying to prop up Obutthole and cover up his disastrous ineptitude by bashing the guy actually accomplishing something.

Wait! There’s bound to be the squashing of some endangered desert rat or tortoise or scorpion in an airdrop. Cannot be tolerated.

ooh but Hillary had her famous “re-set button” to ensure that US-Russian relations would reach a historic best!!!

Strange how the smartest woman in the world turned out to be such a bust as Secretary of State, helping to rip Libya and Syria to pieces while reaching historic LOWS in many US international relationships.

... and she dares to claim that Trump is not qualified to be POTUS!!
