I think that sports teams are missing a bet by not contracting with Indian tribes for non-ceremonial and non-sacred art, slogans, even cheers.

That is, the tribes artists could create a logo, maybe using tribal artistic motifs, use words from their language as analogs to typical team names, provide lots of copyrighted artwork as decor for the team, etc. In exchange, the tribe and its artists are paid, and maybe there are some seats set aside for the tribe for home games.

This would make the team relatively bulletproof against these liberal racist Nasty Nellies.

To their credit, Florida State actually worked with the Seminole Tribe to design their logo and Chief Osceola’s outfit.

Oh man, I just said something nice about FSU, I think I need a shower.

I think a college team has already started down that path— IIRC the Fighting Sioux of UND have a deal with the tribe to use their name.
