federal court has ordered a town in Mississippi to desegregate its high schools and middle schools, ending a five-decade-long legal battle over integrating black and white students.
The United States District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi ordered the Cleveland School District to consolidate the schools after rejecting two alternatives proposed by the school district, saying they were unconstitutional.

Debra M. Brown, judge appointed by Obama. It's apparently a requirement for Obama judges to have crazy eyes.
There goes the neighborhood.
This surprises me, in that, I thought all the school integration cases were settled decades ago.
Is there more to the story? For example, are the schools there segregated because whites are mostly on one side of town, and blacks reside in other areas, and the school boundaries based on housing patterns resulted in mostly white and mostly black schools?
What if many white self-identified as black? Then their quotas would be met!
Hmmm, I wonder if their “feelings” be officially recognized by the US Govt...?
huh? How could they still be segregated?
I live a couple of counties north of there and have never heard about this.
Yes. Desegregation will need to be continuously applied until the aggrieved minorities catch up academically with the privileged majority. There's only a discrepancy in outcomes because the privileged majority has the best of everything. The aggrieved minority must have the best of everything and more of it until the discrepancy ends.
Oh, and the privileged majority must pay for it all because ... Racism.
“What if many white self-identified as black? Then their quotas would be met!”
That is, of course, the answer.
You are the race and (apparently) sex of your choice now.
MS parents should just re-register their kids as black, en masse.
Problem solved.
I bet Mound Bayou is segregated. Only black folks live there
Let’s see how long before the schools go to complete sh!t.
Just sayin.
It would be awesome to tie their stupid leftist psyche in knots.
Well, first of all, I am not for segregation.
However, I am interested if the district will essentially snap a chalk line and review current SAT scores, aptitude tests, GPAs, social issues, teacher complaints etc...and come back and take a look at this 12 months from now and determine;
a) Did education improve?
b) Did students at each respective high school achievement improve or decline?
So, just curious to see if this is really about “improving education” or something else.
Mississippi is poor, its whites extremely poor in many areas, and its blacks increasingly running rough shod over the poor whites...many gangs...lots of drug traffic up to Memphis....
whites should move...they haven't got a chance there and the govt is going to see to it..
For better benefits, I’ve told my grandchildren to identify as black. My mother was a black (maiden name)
Wasn’t exactly what I was expecting to find.
Hays Cooper - 52% white, 42% black, highly rated (10).
Eastside High School - 99% black - medium rated (6)
Cleveland High School - 48 % white, 46% black, low rated (3)
This action by the feds probably isn’t going to even boost enrollment very much at the local seg academy. With close to half the students at the best school qualifying for free lunch, there may not be many students - black or white - that can afford to move to private school. Looks like the party that founded the Ku Klux Klan is trying to keep the blacks down, and can’t tolerate the bright ones getting a decent education.
My question is
Has it been working?
What are the grades in each of the schools? Will they drop after “desegregation” or will they improve?
In the end of the day, it is all about how one does in school, not this liberal social make up nonsense
Busing failed in many areas, such as Prince George’s County, Maryland, because many people pulled out of the public schools.
In that county, at the time busing started, the total school population was about 76% white and 24% black. Within about 10 years, the school system was majority black. And eventually, black parents went to court, asking for the court order for busing to be lifted, because they were seeing their black children bused across the county to majority black schools anyway.
As I understand it, a number of whites decided to either move or put their children in private schools. And few whites have been moving to Prince George’s County in recent years. Nowadays the county is majority black, as is the school system. Unfortunately their schools have major problems.
If it is like Little Rock’s Central High years ago, black kids will now be allowed to go to white schools, lay their heads on the desk and refuse to learn.
