How can Buckwheat pardon bergdahl when he hasn’t been convicted of a crime, only charged? (The court martial is the trial).

Ford pardoned Richard Nixon, who had not yet been convicted of anything. A pre-emptive pardon.

Point well taken. Still Professor Barry is a constitutional lawyer you know... So he is above any paltry legal constraints.

It appears that the presidential pardon power is absolute and he can pardon anyone at any time, including himself, but with risk to his historical legacy.
