I thought about you as soon as I saw this. If I was an ex-pat living there, don’t know what I would think. Probably trying to come up with contingency plans!

It might have been a shock to you but it sure isn’t a shock to me.
I warned all you fanboys that the guy took bribes to free Communist insurgents.
But hey take heart
1. Duterte is no Communist. He’s a corrupt psychotic deviant who’s political views extend only up to his wallet and his pant’s zipper. So this is probably a shakedown of the US.
2. Given Phillipines’ history, the military will probably take over immediately after he is sworn in. The military isn’t going allow Duterte to jeapordize the US gravy train.
3. Never underestimate the corruption and incompetence of the Phillipines, the Communist can’t plan a large birthday party let alone a coup.
Unless the Chinese help. And why would the Chinese help when they just buy anyone and anything they want there?

Some conspiracy from the Washington Post and AFP to defame your hero?
Now that boojit.
The guy said this Monday on his first televised news conference.
He specifically mentioned he would offer the position of Secretary of labor to the Communist.
Why?
Because “They re the most vigilant group in the Phillipines about labor so they will get it.”

You've made two comments in the Duterte conversation and without back-up nor explanation, you sounded like, and was passed over as, a kook.
I'm still gonn'a ride the 'compost' horse and see if this story has legs
Duterte didn't grow up as a communist, and he DOES have a recorded history of law and order ... we'll just have to see
I can't find other "news accounts" about this.

StrategyPage has a nice summary about Duterte.
one reason he distrusts the US is because a man (British) who was making a bomb in his hotel had the bomb accidentally blow up...and later the FBI or someone got him out of jail to the US without facing charges.
Duterte wondered if the CIA was doing "false flag" bombings of innocent people to justify their presence in Mindanao...
