He wins his first political race in 2014 and has the whacky thought that he could run against Trump and Hitlery?!

It sounds like he got a little too big for his britches, and was talked into it by someone more devious - Romney.

This could be the beginning of the end of his “service”.

The nearest I can figure out is that he was president of a college run by the ELCA before being elected to the U.S. Senate. He's a good Lutheran, but does not tow the ELCA party line on most issues, where he is a good conservative.

The notable exception seems to be open borders where the ELCA is infamous for importing lots of Somali Muslims into Minnesota.

Remember the goal is Never-Trump, not Stop-Hillary.

He has probably been told behind closed doors that helping stop Trump would ensure his political future, because THE PARTY would be so grateful to him.

Unfortunately for him, THE VOTERS will not be grateful, and (as he is finding out) neither will the party.
