Are you interpreting what God wants? I don’t have a dog in this hunt but that’s a little arrogant.

Bearing false witness? Spreading a story you know to be untrue? I'm not the most religious person in the world, but I'd assume God wasn't too crazy about that.

I'm not speaking as a religious person, but as somebody who wonders how and why believers spread stories like this or wink and grin at them.

If the people who circulate the rumors aren't religious either that would explain a lot, but if you do have religious convictions, how do you justify stuff like this?

And if it's a matter of politics always being more important what does that say about oneself?

But beyond all that, doesn't the sheer idiocy of the theory rub off on people who circulate it?
