But it also could put Trump’s campaign at a competitive disadvantage as it scrambles to quickly beef up capabilities in highly technical campaign tactics that it largely eschewed in the primary, including voter data, direct mail and phone banking.
..........................................................

Times are changing! Voter data is available to all county parties who also do phone banking, door hangers, walking around neighborhoods, etc. etc. etc. Direct Mailings are really passee. People don’t read them and they only serve to light the fire in the Bar B Q or line the bird cage if they don’t go directly into the garbage.

“Direct Mailings are really passee. People don’t read them”

Absolutely right, IMO. Printing, stuffing envelopes and postage is the worst use of campaign funds there is. It actively annoys people to receive it. As do cold calls on the phone.

Social Media — Twitter and Facebook — posting is incredibly cheap and is more likely to actually be read these days. People lament that Facebook is not attracting young people as much as older folks, but that just makes it the perfect medium to reach actual voters. Posts get read and shared by supporters to all their friends and family — and people read it because they want to know what their friends are interested in. This interest cannot be generated amongst apolitical types by snail-mailed brochures. And Facebook doesn’t “curate” user posts like it does “news articles”.
