Trump will meet with Speaker of the House Paul Ryan at 9am this morning. All the networks will be covering live remarks made by both men following the meeting.
The URL above links to the various video postings on this meeting thus far, (amazing how much coverage all ready), so Freepers will need to find their own source, (FOX, NBC, ABC, CNN, etc).
Please post a good live thread when it surfaces here, and also commentary. As always, it will be interesting how our take here on Free Republic will be.
Trump walks in, makes his wishes known and walks away.
Ryan can take it or leave it.
Trump already told him. All Trump is seeking is support for his run, he is not seeking full throated support for all his policies, he expects disagreement there.
-- The Cruz people for most part dont care. They are Talking libertarian, constitution party or 3rd party w/Cruz. --
Cruz just happens to be the person/name who came in second. If it had been Jeb, the same people would be using Jeb's name as "the only true conservative."
I’m betting you are correct. It will be a win-win for both.
If that's the case then sign be up to defeat Ryan.
Trump doesn’t need Ryan....he has the multitudes of fed-up American voters....he’ll get what he wants.....
We are praying for you Mr. Trump...stay very safe in the snake invested swamp of D.C.
All I can say to that is AMEN! And I say it whole heartedly!
Trump WILL NOT back down!!! HIS agenda for this country WILL go forward!!!!!
This is actually a very dangerous time for Trump. Already, Rudy G. and the gang are trying to undermine his Muslim ban by convincing him it would somehow violate the 1st amendment — it wouldn’t. If “unifying the party” means weakening what got Trump this far, I say to hell with the party and full steam ahead. Yes, Trump needs the RNC data for the election, and access to cash is nice, but not at the expense of core issues.
Immigration from Muslim countries needs to be stopped. The border wall must be built. Trump must stand by his guns on this or risk absorption by the borg that is the GOPe. He needs to take the wise counsel of Jeff Sessions.
I think you’ve nailed it. Just wanted to say that I agree with everything you’ve posted on this thread. It’s not about Trump clobbering Ryan, or finding a way for Ryan to save face. It’s about getting the support of the machine in order to run an effective campaign. They can work out the details later.
The network’s camera coverage themes/techniques thus far are:
FOX- live shots focused on the entryway... basically a field of cameras and crews- now a 4 way split screen
FBN- was not covering live but reporting updates via scrolling banner, occasional switch to live view
MSNBC- initially mind numbing wall to wall coverage of protesters- now a 4 & 5 way split screen, switching back and forth to protesters (Code Pink’s Medea Benjamin in front and center)
CNN- 5 way split screen with talking head
Agree with you.
And look at how much news coverage this is getting!
Trump is a genius.
This is being covered like a Camp David Summit!
Trump looks more presidential than Obummer in Japan!
Gotta love it!
“Im betting you are correct. It will be a win-win for both.”
$$$$$$$$$$$$
Trump is surely aware that Ryan is facing a stout primary challenge. He will be careful not to lean too much toward Ryan. Ryan will be similarly cautious.
There is the remote possibility that both will give a full-throats endorsement of the other to aid each others election. But Ryan is too vulnerable. Trump will not take that chance.
What’s REALLY going on here?
Time to connect a few obvious dots:
1. An attempt is being made to launch a 3rd party candidate against Trump. Bill Crystal is the public face of this movement, and it is real.
2. Mitt Romney just threw a dirt clod at Trump. It’s not just another slime attack, it’s a signal that he’s on board with the get Trump movement.
3. Paul Ryan doubled down on his anti-Trump stance yesterday.
4. Multiple other moderately high profile “Republican” politicians have also publicly signaled they are on board with the anti-Trump movement.
Clearly, the anti-Trump movement within the “Republican” party is real. They have not yet publicly launched their 3rd party candidate, but it is clearly in the works.
So how does Ryan’s move fit in with all this?
A. If you were planning to split the party you would want to blame the other side.
B. What better way than to claim you are for unity, but the other guy just won’t cooperate? In other words, it’s Trump’s fault.
C. That is what Ryan is doing.
So... What’s REALLY going on today?
Ryan is laying the foundation for a split in the “Republican” party, including an attempt to blame the split on Trump.
We won’t know for sure that a 3rd party run is coming until it’s actually here, of course. But what Ryan is doing is one of the steps along the way for this to happen.
There are others, but the highest profile potential candidates I have seen mentioned include Romney, Ryan, Bush, and Cruz. All four have taken steps in recent days to position themselves for this.
He either does what Trump wants or Trump gives him a nickname, like Bearded Ryno or Washington Ryno.

What Trump labels him is fun and games compared to having the voters vote his a$$ out. Think that’s something the establishment will have to learn the hard way.
Morning KC (aka Sam),
Hope all is well with you and your mom.
Bill H just said on Fox News that Reince said that the meeting went great.
Apparently, Ryan outlined his agenda to Trump and Trump told Ryan what he thinks is important for the race. Reportedly they “got along very well”.
Stapled to his head . . . . .
Yesterday Cruz announced that his big thing, to continue the fight against Federal overreach was that he was filing his papers to run again for hi senate seat.
I do not think he will entertain any possibility of any 3rd Party run.
As to this meeting...I hope and pray that Ryan starts today to transition to supporting the party’s nominee. A nominee that will have a larger popular vote for the GOP Presidential Primary than any other GOP Presidential primary candidate in history.
If Ryan cannot see the wisdom in supporting that candidate, and working with him to align their priorities as much as possible...IMHO, there is no hope for him.
Fox News just reported that the first meeting has been positive. Ryan brought his agenda to it, and Trump layed out his. Now they are going into the 2nd meeting, with the rest of the Washington shady dealers.
