That’s just so the kids could get scholarships and loans.

Um, no.

I have twin daughters who live at home and our family falls into the too-poor-to-pay-for-college, and to-rich-to-be-poor, yet not the right political flavor of the season to get funding just handed to them.

Parents telling their kids they have to pay for college themselves doesn't automatically 'get' anyone anything, but it will make the kids appreciate what they've earned.

We’re the same way, but I apparently have too much in retirement savings to qualify for any assistance.

I’ve got one in full time school right now. He’s got some good scholarships and we’re loaning him much of the rest.

He got home last Friday and began full time summer employment on Monday. He’s working for a remodeling contractor and gaining real hands on skills to add to his engineering degree.
