I would aver it makes more sense to say “faith.” We can defend faith, though again we need to do it the way God wants us to (give a reason to everybody for the hope that lives within us, with meekness and respect).
I think I know (and agree with) what you’re getting at, I just hope to give it a bit of a gospel tug.
Many of us believe that God (our one true Judeo-Christian God) is our creator and the creator of all life and all things and is the grantor of our liberty, freedoms and rights. I don’t just have faith, I have faith in our God and His Word and Promise. When I say preserve, protect, defend God, I’m saying it as a humble servant who wishes to conserve the very concept of God and His Word from being extinguished from man and from earth as Hillary and all communists, fascists, islamics, tyrants, dictators and totalitarians have wanted and tried to do all down throughout history.
