Let the banks who loaned money to PR take the loss.
Not American taxpayers.
People keep talking about taxpayers but the government has decoupled taxation and spending. The government spends as much as it wants by borrowing. As long as the government has the power to spend deficits it will spent more and more. People don’t vote against it because they don’t feel the pain of covering the spending with necessarily large taxes. Imagine the government spending at the levels it does and having to collect the taxes in the same year. People would be extremely pissed. But with deficits they can spend without pain. Just like drug addicts they keep using and using and ignore the inevitable pain that comes afterwards.
