Holiday homes are empty most of the year. Housing communities that are 80% empty 11 months of the year still consume resources like fire brigade protection without paying the accompanying sales and local taxes that help pay for them. It’s similar to the way large clusters of tax-free churches have strained some small Texas towns.
They probably need to reform local tax laws which are 400 years out of date. This probably seems easier.
Good new: The homes that were occupied only one month a year by taxpayers will now be occupied 12 months a year by tax users.
Around here owners of non owner occupied property are called “ landlords”
If everyone can only own one house then who is going to have any to rent?
And btw the property taxes on 2d homes and rental homes are usually MUCH higher than on owner occupied homes
People who consume few local services subsidize the school’s parks police and fire departments
