Did you know that, at the end of the Civil War, there were more prostitutes in Washing DC than in any other city on our planet?

On the planet? I doubt that. Washington at the end of the Civil War was a garrison town in the middle of a big war. Prostitution was rampant. Whether Washington had more prostitutes than New York or Philadelphia, however, I don't know. And I would guess that many much larger cities around the world had more.
