The bible does not have bad advice for modern states, but that advice isn’t to become organs of Christendom. It’s to keep a level of order and decency in accordance with what the good Lord advised Noah for the post-flood society. That didn’t change with the advent of the special Hebrew state, nor did it change with the appearance of Christian faith and even its outreach from Jews to Gentiles.
Why the restraint? It’s because each authority has a rightful sphere. States shouldn’t be opposing Christendom but neither should they be expected to be promoting it. Charity begins at home, not in Caesar’s palace.
