Despite that, Rush looked tanned and healthy. O'Reilly's graphics people purposely "grayed out" the tail end of that Rush video, just for dramatic effect.
I saw nothing disturbing at all about Rush's physical appearance, as you described.
Just goes to show how subjective our impressions can be. I thought he looked terrible on many levels.
