SULTAN, Wash. -- Four shots fired. Three hit the intruder.
It was one surreal moment, says Barb Moles.
"I was just intent upon stopping him. I didn't have any other thought in my head," says Moles. "I just knew I had to stop him."
Moles, 80, was home with her husband, John, and their adult son Thursday night when she says she heard a commotion. She walked into the kitchen and found her husband bleeding on the floor.
John, a retired Boeing worker, had been attacked with a knife and beaten with a crowbar, authorities said. He said three words to his wife: "I've been stabbed."
Barb, a grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of three, walked down the hall and into the master bedroom. She found her .38 caliber pistol -- a Christmas gift from John a few years prior.
She waited behind the door for the intruder to come in. He never did.
She walked into the hallway, she says, where she saw the stranger.
He said one word: "gun."
She shot him four times, hitting her mark three on of them.

She did better than the average police officer!
She beat that kid in Alabama who fired 12 and only hit the perp once that just wounded him.
She fired 4 times. Good girl. A lot of people will fire once and stop.
I once left my pillbox (just filled with mostly vitamins
& BP pills) in the car in a parking lot. Well, it took legs
& walked away. The thief did not get the high he was looking
for from the diuretics & three other pills - no oxycontin.
It was things like fish oil capsules, lecithin, vitamins,
calcium, magnesium. I guess they were disappointed; but
maybe healthier for a while anyway.
Agreed. Go ahead and empty the clip.
Yep.
Lucky it was not a policeman. He would have fired 51 times, reloaded twice, and still only made one hit in a non-fatal place.
Kudos to Grams but she needs a little more range time all four would have been perfect.
I’m sorry, but based on the times I’ve shot next to police officers on the range, they’d have been lucky to hit the perp at all.
Under pressure, 3 out of 4 is great!
“Sultan is a low rent suburb of Monroe.”
Well, the KOMO news broadcast showed their home and it’s definitely not “low-rent.”
