Trump Picks Former Goldman Partner And Soros Employee As Finance Chairman
Zerohedge ^ | 05/05/2016

In an oddly ironic twist, today Donald Trump announced that he has picked as chairman of his newly launched fundraising operation none other than a former employee of the bank he has repeatedly criticized in the past, and which he used as a foil to criticize Ted Cruz: Goldman Sachs.

Trump announced that heading up his own personal fundraising operation as national finance chairman will be Steven Mnuchin, a long-time business associate, chairman and CEO of the hedge fund Dune Capital. More importantly, however, he spent 17 years at Goldman Sachs where he was most recently a Partner, having built a fortung of $46 million before launching his own hedge fund.

While employed at Goldman, he purchased the remains of IndyMac Bank (now known as OneWest Bank), the Pasadena, California-based mortgage lender that collapsed in 2008. "Notoriously press-shy, the executive endured 2011 protests on the lawn of his Bel Air mansion by foreclosed homeowners angered at his lender's handling of soured mortgages."

As Zero Hedge readers are familiar, Trump often critized his main competitor Ted Cruz for his links to the bank because of loans used to finance Cruz’s Senate campaign, and because Heidi Cruz was a one-time employee of Goldman. "I know the guys at Goldman Sachs. They have total, total control over him. Just like they have total control over Hillary Clinton,” Trump said in one debate.

At GSCO she was simply a manager of financial planners in Houston

And her instant promotion to VP after Cruz won his Senate seat? Merit based? LOL.

Why are you even on FR since you obvious are for Hillary. Most Freepers are determined to support the nominee to defeat Hillary. None of your negativity is helping that.

“All of a sudden it appears being in bed with GS is not so bad after all. Funny how things can change so quickly.”

That’s not very difficult to reconcile for Alynski’ites.

“working for Goldman with taking money from Goldman.”

Who “took money from Goldman?” Pssst, loans and mortgages that have been paid back don’t count....

A loan to a politician that’s never paid back is the same thing as a bribe.

That post belies your lack of knowledge

Being a VP or managing director at a major investment bank is a good job

There are hundreds or thousands of folks like that at every major banking institution in the world

Making partner at GSCO would be a big deal resulting in guaranteed 7 figure compensation annually and maybe a conduit to political power

Freepers are simply crazy about investment banks

You guys sound like democrats

If you have to beat up Heidi like I said look at the trade stuff

Heidi is the Houston area director of portfolio management

On 1-10 in GSCO power structure that’s about a solid 6.5

Heidi is a retail officer btw

That in itself is a limited influence slot in investment banking

A position in capital markets is where the power is in investment banks

That and underwriting and manda

She is nothing more than a manager of CFPs

That loan was paid back in full, with interest. Do you have a mortgage? Does that make you bought off by your bank? Do you have student loans? Does that make you beholden to Sallie Mae?

Your guy won, there is no reason to continue the misinformation. All you will do is to continue to alienate a good chunk of voters.

Way to go; still attacking Cruz’ family just like your hero! Cruz makes a statesman like speech leaving the primary and Trump continues to dump on his father. Trump relied on false, nasty ad-hominem attacks against all of his Republican opponents because he is devoid of any substantive knowledge. What’s your excuse?

Her training and highish level government experience is in international trade. Goldman stashed her in money management because it isn’t a political liability. Clearly, Ted Cruz is aware of this mine field. Look how he tip toed around his Goldman connections all the way back in his Senate Run.

Wrong. Cruz knew he was leaving the race and still chose to poison the GOP with his poop in the punch bowl farewell “press conference.” Cruz does not want a unified party. His surrogates like Levin do not either. So be it. Trumpers are totally prepared to let bygones be bygones. Sadly, the same can not be said about Ted Cruz and many of his supporters.

You are certifiably delusional in regards to your hero and obviously unable to connect with any rational, deliberative thought. If your (collective Trumpeters)rabidity towards any and all Republican voters who didn’t support your savior continues unabated, you will get the lack of unity you supposedly wish for. Actually, I think that you secretly desire to lose the General so you can all claim the same victimology that Trump perfected during the primary.

Not at all. I’m perfectly willing to forgive Cruz for personally insulting me by calling me low info for supporting Trump. I’m willing to forgive him for using the occasion of conservatives being assaulted in Chicago to attack Trump. Etc., etc.

It’s Cruzers that want to refight the primary instead of engaging and defeating the Butcher of Benghazi. How sad is that?

You are so committed to party unity that you can't even overlook a personal slight? Way to lead by example.

Haha I’ve noticed our FRiends here are neither financial engineers or have much experience closing hefty deals! But I love them just the same. I’ve done great but wish I got as much done these 30 years as Mnuchin does in two. Him and his Dad and their crew is a great get for DJT but as you say, theyre not going to see it. Thanks for the shout.

Ok. fair point. So you don’t think the larger portion of the #neverTrump people are going to eventually stand down?
I keep hoping for the best— that Trump will mature into the role, and that his naysayers will acknowledge the improvement.

I guess I should have prayed yesterday (the national day of prayer).

So you’re wasting time explaining just because Heidi worked at GSCO didn’t mean she was Satan

She was Satanic for supporting the North American Union during the W years.

NAFTA passed the Senate 61 to 38. Democrats were almost evenly split: 27 YEA, 26 NAY (and 1 not in attendance for the vote). Republicans voted for it by a larger margin: 34 YEA to 12 NAY.

7 of the NAY votes are still in the Senate: 6 D, 1 R.

Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL)
Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA)
Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA)
Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD)
Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI)
Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)
Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV)

9 of the YEA votes are still in the Senate: 6 R, 3 D.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA)
Sen. Tom Harkin (R-IA)
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS)
Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT)
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT)
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT)
Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA)

8 former Representatives who voted NAY are now in the Senate: 5 D, 2 R, 1 I.

Mike Crapo (R-ID)
Bob Menendez (D-NJ)
Chuck Schumer (D-NY)
Sherrod Brown (D-OH)
Jim Inhofe (R-OK)
Jack Reed (D-RI)
Tim Johnson (D-SD)
Bernie Sanders (I-VT)

7 former Representatives who voted YEA are now in the Senate: 5 D, 2 R.

Dick Durbin (D-IL)
Pat Roberts (R-KS)
Ben Cardin (D-MD)
Ed Markey (D-MA)
Rob Portman (R-OH)
Ron Wyden (D-OR)
Maria Cantwell (D-WA)

NAFTA passed the House 234 to 200. House Democrats voted against it 156 to 102. Republicans supported it 132 to 43. The sole Independent—Bernie Sanders—voted against it.

In other words, a Democratic president signed a bill against the wishes of 60% of the House Democratic caucus.

Republican margins in favor of NAFTA were about 3:1 both houses.
