I’m really tired of the MSM and others saying that Rubio, Kasich and Cruz “dropped out of the race”. They only suspended their campaigns, like a time-out in a sport contest. ....John McCain suspended his campaign to go back to DC to give his approval to the huge bank bailout, but then returned to campaign and (unfortunately) became the nominee.

While not likely, Cruz could re-start his campaign and take it to Cleveland where the delegates’ votes actually count.

Nope. For all intents and purposes, they have dropped. Out.

The reason they "suspend" instead of "end" is that they get to keep their delegates, and they can continue raising money beyond what is necessary to retire their campaign debts. And they can postpone the paperwork.

John McCain suspended his campaign to go back to DC to give his approval to the huge bank bailout, but then returned to campaign and (unfortunately) became the nominee.

McCain merely diverted his route on the campaign trail for a little grand standing in DC. His use of the word "suspend" was in the service of that grandstanding. It sounded suitably hugh and series. He never suspended his campaign the way Rubio, Kasich, and Cruz have. His campaign offices remained open, and his staff remained employed.
