Good points. From what I’ve observed of Cheney, he is a very thoughtful, deliberative man; and, like you said, I think he studied and observed and decided Trump was someone he could vote for and get behind.

During the 2000 campaign, I came to the conclusion that Cheney was the only adult in American politics.

When he and Lieberman appeared on Larry King, it was obvious that these two men were friends and had been on the same side on many, if not most, issues. But their parties demanded that they be there, and this was business.

It was enjoyable watching each man get in a few good natured zings at the other. By the time the "debate" was over, I could imagine both men going out for a beer afterward.
