Cruz was seriously trying to dialogue with the guy.
A mistake, sure, but something that took some guts and showed some decency.
That "Are you a Canadian guy" was a real jerk.
Lesson Number One of Stand Up Comedy: don’t encourage hecklers. But when they get out of control, you KILL THEM DEAD. Cruz wasn’t prepared for the onslaught and looked ridiculous.

As pathetic as the Rubio, repeat of talking point, brain freeze in the debate. Cruz repeated the long histrionic pause over and over again, each time letting the other guy interject zingers. Cruz acted like a robot whose programming was caught in a loop.
The trick of confronting skeptics worked in previous videos so he was way overconfident.
So much for Cruz being able to think and adapt on his feet. The self inflicted foot wound came at a perfect time - just before the primary!
