I think that Sen. Cruz did the right thing. If the parents are allowing their child to spout off like that, then the kid is going to have to learn that there is a price to be paid.

Maybe you don’t like another adult putting your kid in his place...If it is obvious by that child’s behavior that you have been derelict in your obligation as a parent for the child to know his place in a civil society, then it falls on others to do that for you. Since you have abdicated your obligation you have also surrendered the manner in which that child is put back into his place.

If you have something to say, besides “you suck” you are welcome to bring your opinion forward and have the candidate respond. But a “you suck” is juvenile and is deserving of a rejoinder that puts that child in his place. “You suck” is what I expect from leftists and their progeny and is not a constructive excersize.

Agreed. I wouldn’t be at a Clinton/Obama/democrat rally, but if my kid went with his mom, I would expect he behave with respect regardless.
Children misbehave, parents shocked when the get in trouble.
Starts in the home!

Right in one. Had this discussion with WBill Jr just this weekend. My son informed me in no uncertain terms that Donald Trump was a terrible person and that he hated Trump. (where he got that from, I dunno. Lots of Fox News on at his grandparent's house....) I suspect that if I was 12, "Trump Sucks" would have been the comment, but my boy knows better to speak that way around me.

Rather than taking him to task, I said "Fair Enough. Why? What makes him a bad choice?"

No response. But I could see a lot of thinking going on.

Told WBill Jr. that opinions were fine, and strongly held opinions were fine, but they needed to be backed up with something more than hyperbole. There are plenty of legitimate reasons not to like Trump - or frankly, any politician - but "HE's AWFUL! BECAUSE I SAID SO!" immediately lowers you to the least common denominator of the discussion. Makes you no better than some idiot shouting in the street.

Lots more thinking going on. I'm looking forward to the next ride in the car with him. :-)

What I *didn't* say, is that sometimes - there *IS* a time to bring the discussion to the least common denominator. Shouting in the street (or worse) is the only thing that gets attention. But that's a pretty nuanced argument for a pre-teen, we'll figure that one out when we get there.
