And when the career tanks there’s nothing to fall back on. Employers already don’t want older people and it’s easy to become superfluous in a crappy economy.
I was thinking the same thing; the unhappiest, most bitter people I work with are childless white women who are past child-bearing years. They don’t work any longer hours than their breeding counterparts, but go home to TV while their counterparts deal with the joys (and trials) of families. Even the married ones (boyfriends who didn’t want kids waited until that ship sailed before marrying them) seem to realize they are working to support other peoples’ kids; they vote lib out of gender allegiance, but they detest most segments of the “Obama coalition”...
