Re: The 2016 Republican race
For those of you who have supported the Lone Star Committee's independent expenditures and operations, I want to give you an overview of what we did, how it contrasted with other organizations' efforts, and most importantly, how and why I believe the race has run its course with Donald Trump besting Ted Cruz as the presumptive GOP nominee. This includes an analysis of Cruz and Trump's respective strategies, especially in the critical early voting states where we played a role.

The question has to be how many indies and Democrats? It has been thirty years since such folks gave Reagan his landslide. That is a whole generation. Ross Perot comes to mind more than Reagan. From what I can tell from very far off in 1992(Germany), old Ross, who was was first on the scene with the issue that Trump is now basing his campaign on, found himself riding a wave that was smoking too fast for him. He seems not to have wanted to be president? Which is why his sudden(though temporary) exit in June made him look so awkward? If we could look at the makeup of his plurality in June, and his 20% in November, maybe we could have a baseline to us in analyzing Trumps supporters.
“So disappointing - I used to really like the guy, to think that he was Presidential timber, this generations Reagan.”
There is no such guy. And he couldn’t be elected if there were. I am slowly coming to the conclusion that small government conservatism has had its run and lost. The GOP-E hates it. And Trump is the successful outsider and he is not remotely a small government conservative.
As Matt Kibbe said in 2009, the Tea Party needs to execute a hostile takeover of the Republican party. But he was talking about a conservative takeover. Trump has just successfully executed that hostile takeover; but has done so by aborting the conservative movement and our increasing numbers in congress and the state legislatures. A lot of great anti-establishment legislators are now scorned by ignorant Trump supporters as “establishment” just because they hold office. And a lot of solid conservatives are going to lose to dems this year down ticket. Even if Trump wins the presidency, anti-establishment conservatives are going to get hammered this year.
Conservatives really have no place left politically. Oh well. Maybe we can do a hostile takeover of the Libertarian party :)
“Donald Trump has also said several times in his rallies that this campaign isn’t even about him: it’s about the American People. Trump talks about how “We’re going to bring back jobs”, “We’re going to help our vets”, etc.”
So Trump is in favor of good stuff? Wow! Listen to Hillary’s speeches. Every politician is in favor of good stuff.
There you go. GOPe propaganda.
Is that supposed to be some kind of criticism of Trump? Advocating some good things?
Hillary is in favor of good stuff, and Trump is in favor of good stuff, so Trump is just like Hillary? Is that your reasoning?
I don't see any purpose to your snark...
Vote Trump
“Hillary is in favor of good stuff, and Trump is in favor of good stuff, so Trump is just like Hillary? Is that your reasoning?”
Nope. You claimed that Trump was in favor of jobs and veterans and that this was a reason to support Trump. I pointed out that every politician was in favor of good stuff if you listen to their speeches. They all tell you they are in favor of jobs, vets, and kids. Those are feel good talking points.
So the point I was making, had you thought about my post, is that Trump being in favor of good stuff is not a reason to support Trump or to distinguish him from HRC.
Dammit.
