Meanwhile, on the Pacific coast, an LNG tanker departs Washington every 8-10 days for China, carrying approx 1.5 million gallons of butane and 1.25 million gallons of propane.

So why is this Atlantic shipment news?

They are competing with existing pipelines, Chinese shipments are not.

We need to stop all energy exports. This is stupid. We send the raw materials and they send us fished goods. That is text book mercantilism. We are being colonized people.

Because propane and butane are LPG, whereas this shipment is LNG. The market for propane and butane in the US has been flat. If more vehicles are converted to propane, it will go up. If home heating oil prices go back up, the demand for propane will rise as home heating systems get converted.

The US has exported LNG to Japan and Taiwan beginning in 2014. This is the first to Europe. It is a big deal.

This is the first LNG export.

Liquid Natural Gas is a mixture of, mainly, Methane and Ethane which is liquefied at a temperature of -262 °F

Methane's critical point is -82 C at 45 atm.

Butane and propane have critical temperatures much higher and are easily transported in liquid form

Butane & Propane does not equal LNG.

Butane & Propane are more refined and more expensive.

LNG is cheaper and still burns clean. Is more difficult to liquefy.
