Israeli Anti-Tunnel System Could Put End To Smugglers, Migrants From Mexico

TEL AVIV – The U.S. is cosponsoring an Israeli-invented tunnel detection system that could prevent drug smugglers and illegal migrants from cross-border passage with Mexico, ISRAEL21c reported.

The technology, which is being heralded as the underground Iron Dome anti-missile defense system, was behind the IDF’s recent discovery of a 1.5 mile-long Hamas terror tunnel from Gaza and into Israeli territory.

The U.S. has earmarked $120 million over the next three years to help develop the system, the Financial Times reported.

Meanwhile, other anti-infiltration innovations include a counter-tunnel barrier along the Israel-Gaza border that “will also feature a state-of-the-art fence, complete with sensors, observation balloons, see-shoot systems, and intelligence gathering measures, as well as an underground wall.”

The U.S. has for years closely studied Israel’s border technology and security for its own border with Mexico. In the past, the Department of Homeland Security tested Israeli ground surveillance radars used to detect intruders before they reach the border.

“The search for tunnels is at the top of our priority list … and we will not spare any efforts,” said Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon.

“Dealing with the phenomenon of tunnels is very complex, and the state of Israel is a world leader in this field. This battle demands from us persistence, creativity, and also responsibility and good judgment,” said Ya’alon.

During the 2014 war against Hamas, Israel found and destroyed more than 30 tunnels.

The Israeli government has been vocal about funding a tunnel detection system, investing more than $60 million in anti-tunnel technologies, but details about its technology have remained shrouded in mystery. According to Israeli daily Yedioth Aharonoth, purpose-built sensors collect information from the ground, including the length and location of the tunnel, and transmit it to control systems where advanced algorithms decipher the data.

Find a tunnel, flood it with propane. The gas will find a source of ignition eventually.Or flood the tunnel with CO2.

Great ideas, but the Obama Immigration Doctrine doesn’t allow our Border Patrol to do anything about them just walking across the border now. Perhaps that should be a priority?

One approach to good tunnel management is to locate them; dig a parallel tunnel for part of their length; pack with explosives; set it off when the tunnel fills with jihadists about to raid.

I’d prefer that the entire population of Gaza be rounded up and kicked out, perhaps dropped off in Yemen, or in Angela Merkel’s hometown.

Not CO2. Not very effective since we exhale CO2.

CO is deadly..

That’s been my idea, exactly. Just need an inflatable balloon at the source end as a dam. Drop in a drone with delayed action sparklers.

Anyway, 0bama will prohibit the import of any such system because it’s racist.

Note how the Israelis developed their system in several months. The US gov’t would have taken 7 years and 2.3 billion in cost overruns for the same result.

A kindred spirit, Eh? I was thinking the exact same thing, treat the same as any vermin that infest your yard.

We could end the problem with a garden trowel but we lack the will to do squat; thanks to the suicidal liberal establishment.

CO2 displaces the air,it’s heavier than air.People die in a CO2 atmosphere very quickly.Same with nitrogen.

C02 is also deadly in large quantities in a confined space, since it displaces breathable air, but it would take a very large amount in a big tunnel. I kind of like a mix of the posted ideas, fill the tunnel with propane and an ignition source while plugging our end with foam and ignite. Timing is important of course, you want as many invaders in the tunnel as possible when you light it up.
