Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton traveled 260 miles for a Primanti Brothers sandwich Friday afternoon.
It was a capicola and cheese. With fries on it, of course: Skipping them before Tuesdays primary might be political suicide in Pittsburgh.
Indeed, Ms. Clintons afternoon visit to the Market Square Primantis was sandwiched between two events on the other side of the state. She began the day with an appearance in Montgomery County and was slated for a rally near Scranton on Friday evening.
During her hourlong visit, Ms. Clinton had an arranged lunch date with five union members in the outdoor seating area. While reporters could hear only snatches of the discussion, her lunch mates said it turned on labor and economic issues.
She was hitting on issues that were big for us, said Joel Niecgorski, a union carpenter from Jefferson Hills.
I brought up the plight of coal miners in Appalachia, said Jim DePoe, a North Sider who works at the Cheswick coal-fired power plant. She said wed have to do something about that.
Health care giant UPMC also came up for discussion, said Marla Blunt, a food service worker and member of SEIU 32BJ. We talked about how we are fighting, and how that fight is bringing the wages up in the next few years a reference to UPMCs recent pledge to raise wages to the $15-an-hour minimum sought by labor activists nationwide.
Ms. Clinton handled her sandwich adroitly, and left to cheers of Madame President! from scores of onlookers.

They told me to move outside because Hillary Clinton was coming, said Patrick McCormack, whod come from Long Island to see Saturdays Penguins-Rangers NHL playoff game. I thought they were joking.

You beat me to it, I ate at the one in Morgantown, it was OK, did not think it was as good as all of the hype. I would rather get Tudors biscuits.
And don’t forget to put plenty of Kerry’s favorite ketchup on those fries.
Working girl Hillary is a true socialist hag. She’s probably spewing spit and particles of fries on that poor union slob sitting across from her majesty.
Great, now she’s ruined Primantis for me.
“Snort, snort, wuff, wuff,” Working girl Hillary takes a well deserved break for a quick lunch. After devouring this one the hungry campaigner wolfed down a second. She washed it all down with a pitcher of beer laced with bourbon.
Later, she stumbled over a cow pile and was rushed to the hospital.
Well, that settles it then!

I must be reverting to 3rd Grade mindset.
The other day when it was announced that they were running a BROAD campaign to possibly find a woman VP and now SNATCHES of a discussion....etc....etc...
Really glad these clowns (ALL OF THEM) are taking on the big issues.
IF my voting for someone based on whether or not she/he orders or eats fries or the ‘brilliant’ team of Ksick/Cruz are ‘ganging up’ on Trump 3 days before the election, just means my priorities aren’t on what these fools are supposed to be doing.
Like when walking into the voting area and all the campaigners outside trying to push their ‘garbage’ on me, I just sort of tell them if I hadn’t made up my mind by now I don’t think there being their being there will change or convince me....
Being a ‘negative’ sort, you trying to push something on me like that just solidifies my reason to NOT vote for you.
I hate those kind, they got bad attitude towards the workingmans' class of regular folks.
You are bringing back fond memories from my childhood. I threw up on the Thunderbolt at Kennywood once.
This dumb-ass DePoe doesn't realize she has already said what she's going to do about that. She's going to shut down the coal industry!
Honestly, where do they find people dumb enough for these photo ops, yet still capable of walking and talking?
A food service worker who happens to be employed by UPMC? In other words she has nothing to do with health care! I don't think I can make it to November....
I’ve never understood the Primanti’s thing, lived here for just shy of 30 years, and frankly I find Primanti’s sammiches disgusting. I’ll take Peppi’s any day over Primanti’s....
But every politician shows up and acts like they like them every election cycle... Yes Primanti’s is a Pittsburgh institution, but they aren’t the best sammich in town, not by a long shot.
Primanti’s sammiches are nothing to write home about... Their suburban locations offer some okay food, but honestly their sammiches in my mind are nothing to speak of... I’ll go to Peppi’s any day for a sammich.
They had to be paid plants.
How old in this photo?
If only that would've happened to Hillary...
