Great story!

At the end of the opera, Iago, one of the best villains ever written in theater or opera, gets arrested and whisked away. In Franco Zefferelli's film production, he gets impaled by Otello's sword.

I always imagined Iago sneaking away, retiring to one of those little islands in the Mediterranean and spending the rest of the life pulling the wings off flies.

Here is Bryn Terfel as Iago in a concert performance of the great aria, "I Believe in a Cruel God." He catches the satanic edge of the lyrics. Verdi later wrote his Four Sacred Pieces to atone for the profanity of this aria.
