It might work, but as Fox News notes this weekend, its hardly a risk free strategy.
Even if Cruz is able to force a contested convention by keeping Trump from reaching the magic 1,237 number, he is counting on delegates both having the strength to vote to reject Trump in the face of significant pressure from the campaign and Trump supporters, and then moving to Cruz after they are unbound.
While the strategy seems to have its merits, the question of whether delegates will back him could be complicated by recent threats made to both GOP party officials and delegates themselves, allegedly by Trump supporters. -----------------------------
Yet it wasnt so long ago that anyone with a career in the dreaded GOP establishment wouldnt spit on Cruzs head if his hair were on fire. (I mean, its not as if any high ranking party members were joking about murdering him on the Senate floor or taking cyanide rather than voting for him, right?)

Cruz might be able to jump frog over Trump in delegates, but he
will be viewed as an illegitimate nominee by Americans.
Ted’s strategy may well push folks to vote for Trump just out of spite.
Time for Ted to return to his day job as AA career government employee
He’s been missing more days than Rubio. Day jobs are no fun!
And, the Cruz supporters crying that it ain't fair at all!
If there is a contested convention, the Uniparty will put up their GOP candidate, and it won’t be Cruz.
i will never vote for the guy ever...it may be the rules...but a Democratic Republic is based on one man one vote...that’s the way it was set up. Now you can argue the GOP can set it up any way they want and that’s true. But they can’t make me vote for their damn Cruz...least not yet and if I have anything to say about it never will....

Hate smoke-filled back rooms, such as Colorado?
Vote Trump.
Hate unelected tyrants, such as Castro?
Vote Trump.
Vote for democracy.
Vote Trump.
Vote for America.
Vote Trump.
Same here.
Did Cruz ever show up at the flood sites in TX?
‘One man, one vote’ was set up by an out of control Supreme Court in the 1960s.
We find ourselves with another halcyonic Sunday, most of us anxiously awaiting another Tuesday, and with it the commingled, bittersweet tears of “Ted” Cruz, Hillary Clinton and Uniparty.
He will be hounded throughout history as the nominee with an asterisk by his name
The Ron Paul and Mitt Romney campaigns had a similar battle in 2012.
“threats”
I voted for Romney and McCain ugh!!! But I ALSO WILL NEVER vote Cruz!!! Can’t stomach the guy!!!
Could backfire, he says. Could.
