A few years ago, two economics professors, Quamrul Ashraf and Oded Galor, published a paper, The Out of Africa Hypothesis, Human Genetic Diversity, and Comparative Economic Development, that drew inferences about poverty and genetics based on a statistical pattern.
The worlds most genetically diverse countries (using their measure of what counts as genetically diverse) are in sub-Saharan Africa, which is the worlds poorest region. The least genetically diverse countries are in places like Bolivia, which have low incomes but not as low as in that region of Africa. Theres an intermediate level of genetic diversity among the residents of the middle-income and rich countries in Asia, Europe and North America.
Genetic diversity arises from migratory distance of populations from East Africa. Countries in east Africa have the highest genetic diversity because this is where humans evolved. Populations that settled in other parts of the world descend from various subgroups of people who left Africa at different times. Thus, these groups are less varied in their genetic profiles.
Ashraf and Galor put this together and argued that this is reflecting the trade-off between the beneficial and the detrimental effects of diversity on productivity. Their argument was that a little bit of genetic diversity is a good thing because a wider spectrum of traits is more likely to be complementary to the development and successful implementation of advanced technological paradigms, but if a country is too genetically diverse, its economy will suffer from reduced cooperation and efficiency. Thus, they wrote, the high degree of diversity among African populations and the low degree of diversity among Native American populations have been a detrimental force in the development of those regions.

Tribal Cultures.
What you say is pretty much true of sub-Sahara Africa. You should distinguish between Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. The Egyptians(they also lived on the African Continent) developed writing, literary tradition, great stone architecture along time before the Europeans.
Africans.
Next question.
L
How do they explain the success of Japan?
There is also the cultural aspect.
Judaism celebrates business and trade, scholarship and learning.
Christian nations only flourished when they said you can charge interest on debts and valued trade and innovation as much as Judaism.
Muslim nations remain backward because all research that contradicts the Koran can get you killed, trading/business is less moral than stealing, same rules against usury. When there are Hadith that say raiding is more moral than selling because you have to risk your life to take it instead of lie to people to get it ... you don’t get a good economy.
But liberals want to blame the West for Islam’s suffocation of development of all kinds.
Straight out of Toynbee's theory of history.
Cultures which emerged in environments that held no challenges failed to develop. See Wu River culture, China.
Cultures which emerged in environments that held significant -- but overcomable -- challenges led to highly developed states. See Indus Valley culture, sub-continent.
Cultures which emerge in environments that are extremely adverse, where simply getting by is a challenge -- fail to develop. See Eskimo culture, North America.
As applied to Africa, there are probably examples of the former and the latter -- but few of the happy medium.
Property rights is even confirmed by a number of liberal economists as necessary for prosperity.

I would say laws enforced on everyone including the leaders.
Except for now.
Hobbes:
"During the time men live without a common power to keep them all in awe, they are in that conditions called war; and such a war, as if of every man, against every man.
"To this war of every man against every man, this also in consequent; that nothing can be unjust. The notions of right and wrong, justice and injustice have there no place. Where there is no common power, there is no law, where no law, no injustice. Force, and fraud, are in war the cardinal virtues.
"No arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short."
And as far as I can see that's just the tip of the iceberg. But one thing that strikes me is that more often than not when a person comes to the West from a poor country he tends to do quite well.IMO that should get Africans...and Western "progressives"...thinking.
WHITE courtesy phone?!?!??
That be RACIS!!!
I'm afraid so. Western nations are going to have to legalize Marijuana for all whites, and if that doesn't work mandatory lobotomies may be needed.
Egyptian Civilization wasn’t part of sub-sahara Africa.
"Are we talking about a wager, Randolph?"
It's amazing that an African comes to the States and he actually wants to learn and find a good job for himself, which you don't see in Black Americans.
LOL I said that in class once yrs ago...
I have friends from Nigeria and they cannot stand American blacks.
What has happened to the US economy since the drive for diversity began? I’m not saying I agree with the genetic stuff, but to call it nonsense is to assume the mantle of a competence I doubt you possess.
They’re self-selecting for success by having the planning and foresight to improve their circumstances. That differentiates them from those who remained, just as it did for European commoners who self-selected and came here 100, 200 or 300 years ago. What that says about illegal immigrants coming for the social services I don’t know, but their definition of success isn’t based upon work but rather upon what they get just for showing up.
Actually, this comes down to three simple factors.
1. Craftsmanship. Europe developed the trade mentality and it crossed the ocean into the US...becoming part of our mentality. Go look for any real sign of craftsmanship in Africa over the past five-hundred years.
2. Innovation. Go throughout Italy, Netherlands, Germany, etc...guys sitting in their garage, basement or company lab. They are thinking about improving things around the clock....mechanical, agricultural, etc. Go look for innovation in Africa. Where do you see anything of a comparable nature?
3. If you go to Asia, Europe or the US....you continually see examples of where nothing existing, and some people arriving and putting together major cities, industries, and mass transit. Nothing was built for people as they arrived. So, in Africa, where do you see that mentality?
I would add...even today....if I go to Germany or France, and ask people who they are....they don’t respond Normans, or Bavarians or Franks....they are German or French. Go to Africa and ask who they are, and half the time they respond....such-and-such tribe...not the nationality itself.
