NBA Commissioner Adam Silver put his foot down on Thursday, asserting that for the 2017 All-Star Game be held in Charlotte, it is “necessary” that North Carolina change its law mandating people use only public restrooms corresponding to their biological sex in government buildings.
This moves the discussion to a more definitive stance than the NBA adopted earlier in the month. In an apparent threat, Silver said that he did not know what impact the “discriminatory law” would have on the league’s ability to showcase the game in the Tar Heel state. Silver added that the law is “problematic for the NBA in North Carolina.”
According to Dan Feldman at NBC Sports, “The league is so far ahead on this issue, it deserves praise rather than nitpicking over an evolving message.” He believes that the NBA could still hold the All-Star Game weekend in Charlotte because of viability issues, but that is unlikely given the amount of time before the event scheduled for next February.
NBA icon Charles Barkley and Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy already called for the game to be moved from Charlotte. Entertainers Bruce Springsteen, Boston, and Pearl Jam have also canceled concerts in North Carolina in protest of the law. Recently PayPal jettisoned its plan for a global operations center in Charlotte, which likely cost the state up to 400 new jobs.
Friday, President Obama speaking in London weighed in on the issue saying he thinks that the laws in North Carolina and the “religious freedom law” in Mississippi are “wrong and should be overturned.” Admitting that they are crafted by good people, he stated, “Although I respect their different viewpoints, I think it’s very important for us not to send signals that anybody is treated differently.”

No, it’s the Charlotte Bobcats still. “Hornets” had special meaning for the Charlotte area going back to the Revolutionary War, so it’s too bad that they lost the moniker.

Just an FYI, Chaz Bono, who thinks and feels that SHE is a Man, still has HER original Equipment. SHE hasn’t made the move to change her INNIE to an OUTIE. No commitment yet she demands acceptance as something SHE doesn’t even try to be.
As I’ve already Posted a few times here, it’s time to ditch the Men’s Room and Women’s Room Signs and replace them with “Vagina Free Zone” and “Penis Free Zone” Signs.
Heck, we already have Gun Free Zone Signs and anyone who ignores them and walks in packing is breaking the Law, correct?

Will the NBA require the state of the city replacing Charlotte to have a law protecting LGBTQP bathroom usage. Will the new stadium have to modify and mark their restrooms to the specifications of the LGBTQP community?

I follow baseball and nothing else, and am pretty interested in franchise histories. Other sports, no. So you can imagine my surprise when I heard mention of the Houston Texans during the NFL season, since until that moment I thought that was a team made up for the “Reba” show.
I liked the historical tie-in to the Hornet’s Nest of the Revolution, but honestly prefer basketball at the college level. I’ve been a fair weather fan at best of pro sports in NC.
Agreed. When I was growing up, pro athletes seemed to be role models to kids. Now, many of them seem to be criminals. Same with most in the field of music.
You know I’ve heard a bunch of men spouting off on this issue but few women or women’s groups. Are they willing to share their rest rooms with biological males? Do they feel safe with this? How does NOW feel about this? How about Hillary?

Yup. Was down to watching NBA about every third or fourth year playoffs anyway. Now boycotting everything Nba...from watching any game so that their advertisers especially don’t benefit...to recommending others ween themselves from a corrupt culture

Just start pushing for the abolition of with men and women’s rooms. Make every bathroom for both. I mean, that’s where this is headed right? Can we just skip to the endgame argument?
