John Kasich has enough delegates that he can probably put Donald Trump over the top if Trump doesn't win the Republican presidential nomination on the first ballot at the party's convention in Cleveland this summer.
That's reason enough for Trump to put the Ohio governor on his ticket. In fact, he would do well to magnanimously throw the vice presidential nomination open to the convention with the knowledge that his own delegates would secure the spot for Kasich.
But pure palace intrigue is the least of the reasons that the GOP front-runner should run with Kasich. The governor comes from a swing state that Republicans must win to take the presidency, he has crossover appeal with Democrats who watched the Republican debates and mistakenly thought he won every one, he's got both executive and legislative experience and, most important, his selection would signal to both the establishment wing of the GOP and the general electorate that Trump is serious about governing.

Yeah, we need a RINO who supports amnesty, the expansion of Medicaid under Obamacare, a longstanding member of the GOPe, and an employee of Lehman Brothers as Trump’s VP.
Kasich is the polar opposite of Trump on immigration and trade. It is hard to have a running mate who is trying to undermine your signature issues.
If the GOPee has Karsick in as VP then in a pinch they can impeach Trump and stick Karsick in the big chair.
It is true that Karsick would bring dem votes and Ohio.
Karsick would be a fine president in a prosperous world at total peace.... too bad we ain’t in such a universe.

But for being white, he would be a great choice for Granny Graft’s VP.
Good by me, I can take my monthly donations, meager as they might be, and go somewhere else. If he wants to run this site for conservative discussion, he should expect there will be people who don’t agree. I am not going to be told how I must vote or who I have to support from the rino leadership or FreeRepublic.

Nah. Kasich would be a good pick for VP for whoever the Democrats nominate. Trump should pick an old real warrior General (not a Perfumed Prince), or a good conservative who spent some time in the House or State Department (If any such creatures still exist.)
