A 3-day-old baby was fatally mauled by a pet dog in front of the child's parents at their Mira Mesa home Thursday night, San Diego police said Friday.
The parents were in bed, watching TV, with their newborn son and pit bull-mix dog when the mother coughed, startling the dog, child abuse unit Sgt. Tu Nguyen said.
The dog reacted by biting the baby, he said. The parents pulled the animal off and raced the child to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

Some special snowflake did not like the photo of the actual dog and its *obvious* genetics.
Didnt fit the narrative.
Maybe Ill be ZOTed for even mentioning it."
"I agree and mentioned the same in my PULLED POST that showed the dog in question."
"I had the audacity to say that it was NOT a pit bull mix and lo and behold, I was right.
How evil of me."
Sorry to disappoint, it's nothing as dramatic as all that. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Thanks.
The dog is in quarantine, per the article.
I doubt anyone will bother to check him for tick born diseases, which can cause ‘sudden viciousness” and “hyper-re-activity” in afflicted dogs.
If I were not an adept dog owner, Odin would have ended up like two of his brothers, killed for “turning vicious”, when, in fact, they were no doubt severely hypothyroidal, like he is, as his dam was also hypo-T and thus, ALL the pups were affected.
[HypoT also cause dogs to suddenly “turn”, which he did, but less than hour later, he was at the vet, getting a thyroid panel run, instead of being killed or sent to the pound]
It is my opinion, that, if potential “pit bull” owners *knew* they would be held responsible for any and all damage done by their dogs, there would be far fewer incidents.
As it is, they “get justice” by killing the dumb animal while the dumb asses walk free.
And yes, I am a bit of a nut about personal responsibility.
Were they all in bed together, the couple, the infant and the dog?
If the baby was in its own bassinet or crib, how would the dog be able to bite?
The ticking is the tell.
Pits have *spots* and “freckles* on their muzzles, sometimes *but* ticking is inherent to certain classes of dogs, hounds being one, terriers, another, and Blue Heeler/Australian Cattle Dogs.
A lot of Ibizan Hounds are loaded with ticking, alongside their spots.
Although Pit Bulls are called “terriers”, they are more of Mastiff type dogs.
I do not see Dane in that dog.
I said what I saw and it got deleted.
Ticking is a dominant genetic trait.
My sincere apologies, then.
All together, cuddled up.
Great Danes are usually awesome around children. We had a Harlequin Dane when I was growing up and my cousins next door had a black one. Both were so gentle. LOUD bark but was more likely to lick you to death.
Where’s Chet99 when you need him?
I believe you generalize too far here.
The same sort of story comes to pass with house dwellers too.
Ha—yes.
I couldn’t agree more.
That’s just great. Censorship. If he’s not a pit bull, he’s not. So be it.
Yeah, those insurance companies that won’t give insurance if American Staffordshires are on the premises have it all wrong—they just need to make sure there’s none of that evil golden or lab breed mixed in with it!
Turned out to be supposedly a copyright issue.
Mea culpa.
But he does not seem to be, in my arrogant opinion.
:D
You have he same degree of foresight, apparently, as many (other?) pitbull owners in the country.
Pit bulls ate him.
