BEETHOVEN: QUARTET IN A, OP. 18/5, ALLEGRO

Beethoven was cautious enough to wait until Haydn had stopped writing string quartets before writing his own. His first six quartets digest what Haydn and Mozart had accomplished, with just a touch of the new. The first movement of this early quartet sounds like it could be used as a TV theme. That skipping first subject on the first violin is just luscious.
