GOP takes on Library of Congress on immigration terminology
Associated Press ^ | Apr 22, 2016 3:40 PM EDT | Andrew Taylor

Congress may not be able to reform the immigration system, fix the broken tax code or even pass a budget. But it’s telling the Library of Congress how to label immigrants living in the country illegally.

That’s how conservative Republicans are responding to a move by the library to drop the term “illegal alien” in favor of “noncitizens” or “unauthorized immigration” for cataloging and search purposes. The move came in response to a petition from the American Library Association to change immigration-related search terms to make them less judgmental.

The library’s move, announced in a three-page statement last month, was met with outrage from conservatives, who asked that a provision to block it be added to legislation that funds the legislative branch and its agencies, which include the Library of Congress. …

Conservatives are swimming against an ever- rising tide of permanently built-in, left-wing statism and ideology - in a government they supposedly control.

Just wait until democrats control the next congress, every new leftist movement and agenda and funding will be fully cemented in place - trans-gender rubbish, climate change, etc..

There is only one way I see to end this

That’s why I don’t equate conservatives and Republicans.

Those who do not wish to be the passive, silent victims of frauds of this kind, can learn from modern art the practical importance of philosophy, and the consequences of philosophical default. Specifically, it is the destruction of logic that disarmed the victims, and, more specifically, the destruction of definitions. Definitions are the guardians of rationality, the first line of defense against the chaos of mental disintegration. - Ayn Rand

If the Library of Congress is under control of Congress, then why is this big news? Congress is exerting their legally authorized authority over the Library. While a term such as illegal alien is anathema to the politically correct crowd, that wording appears in numerous publications and resources available to the Library. If they omit the use of such terms, then the search for information will not result in the most complete information being researched.

Sounds to me like a snowflake safe space occupying leftist came up with this complaint.

The left is constantly moving to control the language. When you control the language you control the issue.

There are laws in this Country:

If your not vetted and come into this Country LEGALLY, your an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT...

We practice Christianity here, not Sharia Law...

We are a Republic Nation, were we have freedoms other places don’t have them...

This is America, Home of the Free, and we fight for our rights, don’t get in the way!!!

George Lakoff comes to mind, along with the marxist divide-and-conquer memes "War on Women", "Occupy Wall Street", "Black Lives Matter".

Maybe giving it to democrats will be the only way we will stop taking ourselves vastly more seriously than we deserve.

They will then proceed to turn it into a monstrous fail.

Now a more pragmatic kind of conservatism will find a niche... someone, in fact, much like Donald Trump. Maybe Donald is a bit early to be appreciated. Maybe the country should have had eight years of Hillary first.

What is the opposite of "judgmental?" "Lacking judgment?" "Indiscriminate?" "Vapid?" "Indecisive?"

I'm not seeing how "judgmental" is an insult.

I’m old enough to remember when we were governed by laws, not bureaucrats emboldened by a lawless executive branch.

“Mojado” usually translates to “wet.” If you, as a Hispanic are okay with that term, then so am I.

Hard to believe but I agree with American Library Association.

We should not use the term, “illegal alien.”

We should use the more appropriate term, “criminal alien” because they are criminals for breaking into our country uninvited and they are aliens because they are not citizens of the USA.

Criminal alien describes them to a T.

In proper Spanish, that is all it means-wet-but in the vernacular of the Norteno/Texmex dialect spoken on both sides of the border by people of all ethnicities as our second language, it is “wetback”-as in one who swims the river to get here illegally-it is one of the worst pejoratives in that language-and no, I don’t have a problem with it-my ancestors wandered into W/SW Texas and NM well over 200 years ago to set up ranching-I say mojado all the time...

“Mojado” usually translates to “wet.”

********************************************************

As in the ubiquitous “piso mojado” signs.

If someone doesn’t understand “wet floor” in English, they deserve to fall on their a$$.
