The pro-life organizations jumped down Trump’s throat when the actually spoke of making abortion illegal/murder. Can’t have it both ways.
Imprison five abortionists and strip their medical licenses and there soon will be no above ground abortion mills in existence. There is a verrrry limited supply of medical quacks who want to kill babies for a living as it is. Imprison some and there will be very few willing to admit their crimes against humanity. At one time or another, nearly 50% of the human race (women) have some potential to be mothers. Not so with the butchers. They are the numerically miniscule vulnerable choke point. They prosper financially by killing little babies. Some of the mothers may be sympathetic characters because of the circumstances of their lives. NONE of the butchers are sympathetic.
So the way it works in real life criminal courts where I practiced for decades is that you charge the mother as well as charging the butcher. You then offer the mother immunity from prosecution (rather than the risk of, say, ten years in prison) in exchange for her honest testimony against the butcher who needs 25-life. You sign a written contract on that detailing the parameters of the immunity and detailing the mother's obligations needed to earn it. She testifies. The butcher is convicted and jailed. Her charges are dropped since she is small fry wth some bargaining advantages. The worst repeat offenders among women might possibly have seven or eight abortions, each and every one a tragedy. One butcher can kill thousands of babies, each and every one a tragedy. Letting the mother off the hook to nail the butcher is great judicial economy.
When you say that we "can't have it both ways," if you mean we cannot immunize the mother and convict the butcher, I deny that. This is not a matter of being FAIR to the poor butcher as has been asserted by others here trying to defend Trump's blunder. The butcher can cry me a river from his/her jail cell. I've seen a lot of less justified reasons to imprison other people.
If you mean that pro-lifers are being UNFAIR to Trump, again, I deny that. If he wants to convince us that he is pro-life, he has to prove it convincingly given his lifelong commitment to "legal" abortion and persistent regard for Planned Barrenhood. Anyone can change but the worse the track record the harder the proof.
God bless you and yours.
