I think that a delegate is just that.
A person given authority to represent a group.
The group wants The Candidate to win and tells the delegate to vote for and support that candidate until the candidate decides to no longer be a candidate.
At that point, being a delegate, I would wait for the candidate to tell me who to now support.
Delegates should have no free will.
So, on the second ballot those pledged on the first should stay as is. The worst loser of the second ballot should be forced out and loses all delegates to the next candidate of the loser’s choice.
And on until one is chosen.
