Republican Donald Trump is calling on his remaining rivals to drop their presidential bids, saying neither Ted Cruz nor John Kasich has a path to the nomination.

That definition has not been used that way in recent times. It is possible it was used when Lincoln “stole” the nomination on the third ballot. The question is whether Trump can get 58% of the remaining delegates before Chicago and have enough to overcome the GOP version of super delegates ( the three minimum unelected delegates from each state who are part of the party hierarchy ).
I was simply pointing out to be consistent if Trump wants every person's vote to count, then there is no reason to end this early.

No matter from what side, its politics as usual. In Trump's case I think it shows some insecurity. If he's so inevitable why does he need everyone else to quit?

The rules call for a majority of the delegates and have since the days of the smoke filled rooms. Trump has the most votes and a plurality of the delegates. I see no reason to change the rules for Trump.
If Cruz wants to try for a second or third ballet; he's well within his rights.
However, I want to add if Trump is the candidate that comes out of this. I will vote for him. But this isn't owed to him he has to earn it.
Trump will have the delegates he needs, a wave is building while the GOPe plays in mud puddles.
Ted Cruz epitomizes the term "bad sport". I've clearly outlined the situation and scenarios.
I can't get any defensible response from any Cruz supporter. It's just "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the American way", I guess.
There's no miracle coming, and Cruz risks irreparably splintering the party at the convention.
Maybe after Tuesday night, reality will sink in.
He's definitely fading.
Were the situations reversed, many Trump supporters would be calling for Donald Trump to step aside, for the good of the party and the good of the country.
FReeper Jeff Head, as ardent a Cruz supporter as you will find, has aptly summarized the situation in his open letter to Ted Cruz.
It's time to start thinking like a statesman, instead of trying to engineer some kind of delegate coup which, even if successful, would absolutely destroy voter enthusiasm in November.
Rightly or wrongly, the psychology of the situation would cause countless Trump voters to stay home in November.
It's just insane what Cruz is doing.
As I've pointed out, at this point, Ted Cruz's egotism, narcissism, and personal ambition make Donald Trump's ostensible character deficits pale in comparison.
That's the reality. I know he was your guy. But he's lost. Now it's just going to be a question of the magnitude of his humiliation.
I think that Ted Cruz should preempt that, unite the party, and become enough of a hero that he gets a prominent position in the Trump administration.
Also, since he's such a great Constitutionalist (er, except maybe for NBC issues) wouldn't it be great for him to replace Justice Scalia?
If you and Cruz really want what's best for the country, instead of just personal glory, isn't that a great idea?

Donald Trump is really not the devilish caricature some have sought to brand him as.
As for myself, the healing process can't begin soon enough.
The rancor is off the charts, and though I sense a turning of the tide, I think everyone is weary of this bruising primary cycle.
But if Ted Cruz insists on have his nose rubbed in reality, the voters will oblige.

That needs to be repeaTED over and over again. Ted is skating on thin ice Career wise. As you so aptly said, he is not eligible for the office in which he is running. Hellary would wipe the 'debate' stage with that one topic. Oh, she/it will come to that first debate armed to the hilt with records once thought hidden. If you believe THIS crap, then you must believe that NONE of the candidates should have ever dropped out, because their supporters would be “disenfranchised.” Do we feel bad for Jeb? For Marco? Hell, no. But I respect those two a LOT more than that dirtbag from Canada because at least they had the integrity to drop out when it became impossible for them to win. More than I can say for Cruz and Kasich.
In 1968 the DNC gave the nomination to Hubert Humphrey even though he didn't win any primaries, and he lost the general election. That may have been a special situation because of the RFK assassination, but four years later Humphrey got a fraction of a percent more primary votes than George McGovern. The party gave the nomination to McGovern and lost big time.
Nowadays you could compare the party conventions to the electoral college. It's not an exact or perfect parallel, but the convention or electoral college can do whatever it wants, but it will pay the price if it doesn't pay attention to electoral results.

Would you agree Paul Manafort is a delegate expert? If so, you should consider that he recently said Trump has several ways to get to 1237...and sounded very confident he will do so relatively easily.
