I understand it very well from a ground level political perspective. Abortion, gay marriage, porn, etc are issues that simply aren’t as important to a growing number of Americans. It’s reality. I’m looking for ways to win the White House. Cruz, Santorum, Huckabee, et al aren’t going to cut it. I don’t know what the solution is, but having these things as planks in the party just mean further marginalization on the national stage. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Win it-the White House-for what? What about the day the left outnumbers us on the illegal issue? What will we let that go to save? What will be left for an opposition to oppose?

I understand it very well from a ground level political perspective. Abortion, gay marriage, porn, etc are issues that simply aren’t as important to a growing number of Americans. It’s reality.

That's the very problem, though: "counting noses" (i.e. doing opinion polls) is a terrible way to decide what's morally right to do (or support), and what's morally wrong. When we face Christ at the end, we won't be judged by what was politically expedient, or by what other people did or didn't believe. We'll be judged on what we said and did (cf. Revelation 20:12-15).

I’m looking for ways to win the White House.

By making ourselves more like the enemy? Usually, we want to defeat the enemy because we want to UNDO... or at least AVOID... the evil they do. This practice of "feeding other people to the alligator in the hopes that it'll eat you last" really needs to stop.

Cruz, Santorum, Huckabee, et al aren’t going to cut it.

Cruz, Santorum, the Dalai Lama, the Pope, Rev. Franklin Graham, Ronald Reagan, etc., are all IRRELEVANT to the point at hand. Trump, for no morally good reason, is supporting a weakening of the GOP stance against abortion... and that's wrong, no matter who likes or dislikes that fact, or who votes for it or doesn't vote for it. It's also politically stupid: anyone who thinks that they'll "buy votes" by freeing up abortion is only doing a favor to those who would never vote for anyone other than a liberal, anyway.

I don’t know what the solution is, but having these things as planks in the party just mean further marginalization on the national stage.

This is simply wrong. Those who object to the "strict" (i.e. the only morally sane) view on abortion (i.e. it's never morally permissible) are those who ALREADY HATE US. Look around: the idea of trying to appease the "moderates" by giving the Libs some of what they want is as spectacularly stupid as trying to placate Islamic terrorists by agreeing to implement "some small and reasonable compromises" with Sharia law.

Don’t shoot the messenger.

I'm not shooting anyone. I'm pointing out a morally wrong position by Trump, and I'm pointing out a logically and morally incoherent compromise by some Trump supporters as they try to defend the indefensible.

So winning the White House with a liberal posing as a Republican is a win? I think not.
