Carrier made the decision to leave Indianapolis for Mexico when the United Steel Workers went on strike. I’ve read that Carrier’s labor costs will go from $30/hr down to $3/hr.

Not sure how Trump fixes that.

Using the power of magical thinking.

If we had lower taxes and the union contract was renegotiated at $20/hr and the cost to the employee was made up partly by the lower taxes...then Carrier might decide that the difference of $20/hr to $3/hr isn’t worth the move to Mexico....especially if there’s added tax to bring the products to the USA.

Just a thought.

The answer is FAIR trade (please pick up on my sarcasm) We should demand that every factory worker in Mexico earn the same amount as a UNION worker in the US- then we can compete strait up or FAIRLY. Sort of like a Davis-Bacon Law but globally. Then when stupid liberals in the US pass ridiculous environmental laws, we should demand Mexico implement the same standards. Also demand that Mexico tax all companies at the highest global rate of 35%. All Mexican workers should attend a plethora of work place training on sexism, homophobia, racism, religionism.... you get it.

After all this, I am sure we will kick Mexico ass!

And that is why free to buy is important. Without the ability to take your own hard earned money and spend it as you see fit then unions and rent seeking slime balls will enrich themselves at your expense.

If I agree to limit steel imports will the USW agree not to make steel more expensive by striking for ever more lavish pay and benefits?

Carrier not only escapes the UAW but they also escape tariffs on steel and the probably get lower energy costs and less government hassle. The good news is high paying engineering, design, and marketing jobs will stay in the US. Tough luck for the blue collar workers. But they, mostly, continue to support the Dems and therefore the EPA, FTC, OSHA, EEOC, trial lawyers. etc.. Why does an autoworker support the EPA?

Interestingly enough I wonder how many of those workers will be “Mexicans” and not Guatemalans or Salvadorans.
