But, there is a point to be made by this guys premise..there is a Cause to Fight for Conservatism.
In my view far to many salt of the earth Conservatives are so sick and tired of losing year after year that they will believe some NY tin horn liberal is conservative because they think he will win.
In my part of fly over country what you do is far more important than what you say you are going to do. Mr. Trump has conducted himself as a NY liberal for decades. (although the esteemed owner of this site would no doubt disagree with that assertion).
I see no reason Trump would suddenly change his stripes. We get a lot these hundred millionaire's, billionaire's out here. I deal with them as little as possible but when I do, the thing that comes up over and over when they get off their private jets is that they don't want to deal with the “public.”
IMHO Trump is either intentionally or most likely unintentionally going to destroy Conservatism in this country. He is not one of “us” no matter how some wish he was.
Reagan united the three legged stroll of Conservatism e.g. fiscal responsibility.religious liberty and overwhelming military superiority.
I must admit I'm more than a bit discouraged. After all of these years of slowly pushing the country to the right, suddenly when folks see that a Trump presidential victory might be possible they could care less about fighting or standing up for Conservatism as it has been thought to be since Goldwater .
What you are seeing is the extreme frustration on the part of many conservatives who, for years, faithfully voted, walked precincts, donated, made phone calls, and more, to elect candidates that claimed to be conservative, only to have them unabashedly cave in to the Left.
We know Trump is not a rock-ribbed Conservative, but he is the only candidate with the strength to tell the truth lately about the state of our country, and the only one who recognizes the disaster that both parties have created.
The future is going to get much worse, not better, and the "same old same old" won't cut it.
... While Trump has been busy dividing, alienating and destroying the people whose support and votes he would need to have even a decent showing in the general election, not even talking about the damage to down-ballot/down-ticket races who can't win the ir races hitching their wagon to Trump's half-baked, unserious 'ideas' and incoherent mesh of Ron Paul-ish and liberal economic and foreign policy 'philosophies' just like he's been doing in his failed businesses, with the same kind of 'hyperbole and bravado' sales pitch (what does his brand stand to lose, anyway?)...

"Great minds talk about ideas. Average minds talk about events. Small minds talk about people. And the smallest of minds talk about themselves"
I think everyone can clearly see which part belongs to Ronald Reagan and which parts belong to Donald Trump.
