The delegates, not the people, choose the candidate. Each state organization is basically independent of the NRP. There is a national elite, meaning the people based in Washington, and local elites based in the several states. The elites, and/or activists decide how the delegates are to be chosen. You seem to want pure democracy, which is not how our system of government is organized. We have a form of mixed government with a senatorial class in each state and a popular class. The two overlap. If the senatorial class seems to become a caste then we get restive, and someone like Trump or Cruz can rise to challenge them. At the presidential level, that person will always be a member of the senatorial class. Of the candidates, only Carson and Bernie are not members of the senatorial class.
That's the problem in a nutshell. These primaries are just window-dressing to fool the masses. The political elites decide who is should be the nominee regardless of what the voters want.
Bernie is not in the Senatorial class?
Please explain that.
What you fail to see is that Trump has exposed that the whole system is corrupt.
When the establishment weasels their way to get their candidate, like in the past with McCain and Romney, it is not exposed.
But when you get a candidate they don’t want, the corrupt system is being exposed like we are seeing with Trump. The dem side is being exposed as well.
