Sen. Ted Cruz for the first time said he believes the Republican Party is headed to a contested convention.
Cruz had previously called a contested convention likely and that it seemed the party was heading in that direction. But after a disappointing third-place loss in New York Tuesday, the Texas Republican is no longer saying he plans to beat front-runner Donald Trump at the ballot box.
"We are headed to a contested convention, Cruz said in an interview with Philadelphia talk-radio personality Chris Stigall this morning. At this point, nobody is getting 1,237. Donald is going to talk all the time about other folks not getting to 1,237; hes not getting there either. None of us are getting to 1,237.
And hes right about one thing. After the New York primary, it is now mathematically impossible for Cruz to clinch the Republican nomination using bound or pledged delegates before the July convention in Cleveland.

Cruz is not a Constitutional Conservative or he would have admitted he was not even eligible to be POTUS.
That was his very first lie.
He could prove that by unsealing his records. He didn’t want anyone to see them.
There couldn’t be more of an admission than sealing records just like Obama.
Sadly, Cruz has done a lot of that this campaign.
Except Trump.
Jim Robinson says it's time to unite behind the presumptive nominee.

Not such bad news - that’s how we got Abraham Lincoln!
What is your point? There were only 3 people running last night although Ben Carson did beat Cruz in at least one precinct. Trump has won more open primaries than Cruz. Trump has won more closed primaries than Cruz. The truth is that Cruz just does not win much unless the voters can be bypassed.
Can Trump, with all his duplicity, beat Hilary?

Yeah, old Ted's playing pretty fast and loose with the definition of an election there. Playing fast and loose with the facts has been the biggest part of his campaign in recent weeks.
Do you listen to yourself? It's New York.
When he’s the actual nominee ...I will ... but presumptive depends on who’s presuming.
Jim also asked us to pledge to vote for the nominee, whoever it is.
Lots of trumpers have violated that.
They’d rather be Trump than be president, to paraphrase.
“Jim also asked us to pledge to vote for the nominee, whoever it is.
Lots of trumpers have violated that.”
Sooooo....you read our minds too, do you now ?
You sure as hell can’t see a fraud candidate when he floats by either. Cruz can do nothing but hurt the country at this juncture, by staying in. And judging by his statements to the media, that is his plan.
You have a week or two at best before Ted is done. Try to figure your own exit strategy from FR. Or moving over to get behind the GOP nominee Donald Trump to beat Hillary.
Why are you people crowing?
Trump was expected to win New York. He won New York.
His path to 1237 hasn’t changed... he still can’t make it.
I’m gonna stay here and see what happens and how you all deal with it. It’s gonna be fun.
I didn’t have to read minds. I saw many hysterical posts swearing up and down they would never, ever vote for Cruz.
That’s all I have to know about you to know that you prefer Trump over your country.
Good luck with that.
Well I don’t think its going to be much fun for the handful of people on FR who have not accepted that its over. Butthurt on the way.
You are totally misguided. Trump has the only path to the nomination, and all should get behind him. Cruz and Kasich are splutters for the party, but, I don’t expect any Cruzbots to understand that since they go through life with blinders on.
Well Cruz kind of has to say we are headed for a contested convention because he is mathematically unable to get to 1237. Its over for him. The only place we are headed is to a first ballot nomination of Donald Trump.
